Manross announces four endorsements

Scottsdale Mayor Mary Manross, seeking re-election to a third term, has received four endorsements from civic leaders and well-known residents, according to a Thursday announcement from her campaign.

Scottsdale Mayor Mary Manross, seeking re-election to a third term, has received four endorsements from civic leaders and well-known residents, according to a Thursday announcement from her campaign.

The endorsements are from Art DeCabooter, outgoing president of Scottsdale Community College, retiring after 30 years in that post; Jamie Drinkwater Buchanan, daughter of the late former Scottsdale Mayor Herb Drinkwater; Jim Bruner, a former Scottsdale city councilman and ex-Maricopa County supervisor, and Virginia Korte, past president of the Scottsdale Area Chamber of Commerce.

Manross is being challenged by Councilman Jim Lane and newcomer John Washington. The election is Sept. 2.

Golf tournament to benefit MS society

The second annual Dos Gringos “Cinco de Mayo” Golf Tournament will be Wednesday at Scottsdale Silverado Golf Club, 7605 E. Indian Bend Road. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. and the tournament will begin at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start. The proceeds benefit the Arizona chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Games and contests will be held throughout the course. All golfers receive a Mizuno wedge, a tee prize package and a ticket to the post-tournament party at Dos Gringos restaurant in Scottsdale.

Group hosts lifestyle designs luncheon

The Scottsdale Women’s Connections “Lifestyle Designs” luncheon will be 12:30 p.m. May 14 at Grayhawk Golf Club Fairway House, 8620 E. Thompson Peak Parkway.

Designs of the Interior will present “Accessorizing Your Home, Where Great Design is the Fusion of Your Personality and Lifestyle.” Audrey Thorkelson will discuss “Heart Smart: Encouraging the Faint of Heart.” Music will be presented by Lauren Desmarchais.

See vintage autos on Craftsman Court

Craftsman Court in downtown Scottsdale will serve as the backdrop for custom and vintage cars from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Fridays through May 30.

Craftsman Court is located one block west of Scottsdale Road between Fifth and Third avenues. The event is free. For information, call (480) 941-9333.

Thrift store seeks summer volunteers

Volunteers are needed for the summer months at the White Dove Thrift Shoppe, 8461 E. McDonald Drive. Sale proceeds benefit patients and families of the nonprofit Hospice of the Valley.

Volunteers assist with organizing goods and making sales. Teens are welcome to apply.
