About 5,000 carolers showed up at Scottsdale Fashion Square at noon Wednesday, contributing to an already busy traffic situation around the mall, Scottsdale police said.
Thousands of cars were trying to use the same roads in the area of Scottsdale Fashion Square, near Scottsdale and Camelback roads, Sgt. Mark Clark said in an e-mail. Officers on the public safety scanner reported drivers were calling police as they struggled to get out of the parking garages.
"Traffic delays should be expected," Clark said in the e-mail. "The traffic problems are working themselves out as best as can be expected and our officers are working with our traffic management center to adjust the signal timing where appropriate."
"There were 5000 carolers at the mall around noon and that contributed to the traffic. I don't think that will be an issue as the day progresses."
