The Desert Vista linemen had a raucous ride back from Tucson on Saturday after the Thunder won the Big Man Challenge during the 7-on-7 tournament at the University of Arizona.

“These guys did a great job,” Desert Vista coach Dan Hinds said.

The group included Dylan Fischer, Zack Tamburo, Sam Hartman, Adam Ortega, Brandon Fox and Jalen Jelks.

The challenge consisted of one-one-one drills, obstacle course and weight lifting (max reps of 185 pounds).

In the 7-on-7 tournament, the Thunder went 3-2 but did so with starting quarterback Matt Young on a recruiting trip to South Dakota.

Vinnie Monaco, who was the JV starter last year, ran the offense.

“We were missing some guys but we did well,” Hinds said. “The defense was really sharp.”
