I read the guest commentary by Michael Reagan in the Jan. 25 issue of the Ahwatukee Foothills News (full disclosure, I contribute to an AFN column about spirituality and periodically write opinion pieces).

As a reasonable American, interested in reasonable discourse, I found some of Reagan's points had merit. He had my open mind until he referred to the President as "Barack Hussein Obama," toward the end of his piece.

Too bad, he lost me.

I'm certain Reagan found favor among some, but including the President's middle name was an implicit act of bigotry - a dog whistle to those who would like to cast him as not one of us.

Is it Reagan's habit to include middle names when making references to all politicians?
