In its second year, Mountain View Lutheran Church is aiming to kick off the Christmas season with a Renaissance-style “feaste.”

With the church’s interior decorated with fabrics, ribbons, and people ringing bells in period costumes, attendees are taken back in time to celebrate the holidays.

“It connects people in a fun way, and it is absolutely to encourage fellowship and community,” said Jennifer Sheldon, director of music ministries.

The second annual event is open to the community, and will feature music from the church’s musicians, a special magic show and, of course, a three-course feast.

Last year, the church’s capacity of about 150 was completely full, according to Sheldon.

“There isn’t really another Renaissance event like this around,” she said. “This includes food and we’re kind of renowned for the meals we have here on Wednesday nights.”

As one of the oldest churches in Ahwatukee Foothills, Sheldon said the church has become sort of a gathering point for the community. And the upcoming “feaste,” according to Sheldon, is a way to keep that tradition alive.

“This is a big event, and it’s about bringing people together,” she said.

The Renaissance Feaste will be on Friday, Nov. 30 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in Mountain View Lutheran Church’s Family Life Center, 11002 S. 48th St.

Tickets are $12 and can be purchased online at mvlutheran.org. Kids 5 and under are free, and childcare will be available.
