South Mountain Community College (SMCC) president Dr. Shari Olson traveled to Washington D.C. this month to a conference focusing on education-based entrepreneurship and innovation.
More than 300 university and college presidents from throughout the U.S. were invited to attend the Oct. 1 conference, entitled “The Innovative and Entrepreneurial University: Higher Education, Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Focus.”
Many of the presidents in attendance, including Olson, have expressed their commitment to promote and nurture entrepreneurship through their institutions by joining the Presidents for Entrepreneurship Forum, sponsored by NACCE, the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship.
Olson has pledged that SMCC will play an active role in stimulating economic development through entrepreneurship within its region.
Topics addressed at the conference included student and faculty innovation; technology transfer and industry collaboration; regional economic development; and the future of American innovation and higher education.
