Connecting to Serve and the Ahwatukee Community Network would like to extend our gratitude to our panelists and the victims of domestic violence who attended our special forum on this serious issue April 16 at Mountain Park Senior Living.

Special thanks to Councilman Sal DiCiccio, District 6, who lead the discussion, and to our panelists: Libby Bissa with the Family Advocacy Center, Marc Revers with the Phoenix Police Department, Bob Smith, assistant city prosecutor, and Jennifer Emperador with Empower Hour. A touching invocation by Pastor Glenn Zorb from Mountain View Lutheran Church opened the meeting which addressed Phoenix’s aggressive new initiatives on fighting domestic violence.

We wish to especially acknowledge the participants who shared their very personal stories of domestic violence. Approximately 1/3 of our more than 40,000 attendees have been affected by this problem, which impacts families throughout our community.

The public is invited to attend our next meeting on Tuesday, May 21, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at Mountain Park Senior Living, 4475 E. Knox Road. The topic of Foster Care will be addressed with our lead panelist, Clarence H. Carter, director of the Arizona Department of Economic Security. The Ahwatukee Community Network is facilitated by Connecting to Serve (CTS).
