The Ahwatukee Swim and Tennis Center is celebrating Veterans Day with its Ninth Annual Car and Motorcycle Show on Saturday.
The event, at 4700 E. Warner Road, will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 10.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and costs $18 to register a vehicle. All vehicles will be judged and prizes will be awarded for Best in Show and Sponsor’s Choice.
At 10 a.m. American Legion Post 64 will host a special flag ceremony at the Blue Star Memorial, just outside the ball park, to kick off the event.
A pancake breakfast will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project, and all veterans and active-duty military can eat for free. For lunch there will be hamburgers and brats for sale.
Lisa Robinson, special events/rental coordinator for the Ahwatukee Swim and Tennis Center, said she expects about 60 to 70 vehicles and about a dozen motorcycles at the show. It’s a popular event for local car lovers to come out, show off their car and talk about their vehicle with other enthusiasts.
“It’s a fun neighborhood thing,” Robinson said. “People like to park in our grass and make their cars shine and then just sit back and talk.”
The event is free to the public, but organizers ask that attendees bring a non-perishable food item for St. Mary’s Food Bank.
There will also be a raffle during the event to raise extra funds for the Wounded Warrior Project.
