A struggling hitter wants nothing more than to get back in the batter’s box and Kevin Cron is doing just that in the premier college summer league.

The Mountain Pointe product is playing for the Falmouth Commodores in the Cape Cod League.

Through 15 games, the first baseman was hitting .310 (18 of 58) with eight runs, seven doubles, four stolen bases and 11 RBIs.

He leads the team (and the league) in doubles and hits, ranks second in RBIs and is tied for third (on the team) in stolen bases.

If he continues at this level he could make the league’s all-star game, which is played July 27.

It’s a good showing after a difficult sophomore year at Texas Christian that saw him hit .208 with two home runs and 20 RBIs in 192 at bats with a .276 slugging percentage, which was a step back from the his freshman campaign (.338, 6 HRs, 34 RBIs, .503 slugging).

The Mountain Pointe product was mentioned in the May 13 issue of Sports Illustrated as one of 10 sophomores who could be selected in the first round of the 2014 MLB first-year player draft and the reasons were listed as “past performance (.338 in '12) and pedigree (brother {C.J.} was first-rounder in '11) excite scouts.”

His performance this summer thus far won’t change that belief.
