In his first visit back to Mountain Pointe High School since becoming a household name in the Olympic Games this past summer, Will Claye stressed to current students the importance of education.

Since returning from London for the summer Olympics, Claye has enrolled at the University of Florida.

“I feel like I have a lot in common with them,” said Claye, 21, of talking with students. “I can really relate to what they’re going through right now.”

Mountain Pointe’s gymnasium was filled with cheering students turned fans Friday afternoon, just before school let out for the weekend.

Claye, 21, along with his mom and track coach, spoke briefly with students about his memories from the Olympics in London where he won bronze and silver medals.

Though it was easily the most significant moment of his career so far, Claye offered perspective of how education still matters.

“School will take me further than track will, but I’m blessed to be where I am today.”
