Girl Scout Junior Troop 64 donated 167 new stuffed animals and 33 gently used stuffed animals to the Ahwatukee substation of the Phoenix Police Department on Nov. 10, which was also National American Teddy Bear Day.
The local troop collected the bears to earn their bronze award, the highest honor a Girl Scout Junior can achieve. “Bears Show We Care...Give a Trauma Bear” allows first responders, such as police officers, to give children experiencing a traumatic event a bear to hug and divert them from the emotional and physical pain they are enduring at the time.
