OORAH!!! That’s for Mesa Police Chief Frank Milstead and the Mesa Police Department who became the first Police agency to partake in the Phoenix Pride Parade.
“If you build it, they will come”. I’ll bet dollars to donuts other agencies will follow. I was the past chair of Mesa’s Martin Luther King Jr. parade, from the city’s first parade in 1997 until 2008. We were honored to have police and Mesa Fire marching in our parades. I can say their participation gave our parades validity. Mesa PD has led our parades as the honor and color guards, and fire has had their ladder truck and bagpipe details in a few of our parades. I ask you now — when these brave men and women put themselves on that thin blue line every day to protect and serve when call to duty — does anyone ask about their sexuality? Can you feel me now?
Dr. King once said the true measure of a human being “is not where they stand in moments of comfort and convenience but where they stand at times of challenge and controversy.” Officers of the Mesa Police Department: your recent stance was amongst giants.
Bravo, my brothers and sisters. Bravo!
