Molly Jisa has taken a big step into the world of stage acting.

The 15-year-old Ahwatukee Foothills resident will be performing in a musical reproduction of "Cinderella" at the Mesa Arts Center, 1 E. Main St., starting on Friday, May 6.

It is an original take on the classic fairy tale, in a script that was written by a member of the Christian Youth Theatre, the organization putting on the performance.

"It's a little different and more funny in certain ways," Jisa said of the new production. "It has definitely been something I have enjoyed doing these last few months."

The website offers the synopsis: "Cinderella dreams of attending the ball thrown by Prince Andrew, a young prince who's nowhere near ready to be King. Through her kind heart, and the help of friends, including her Fairy Godmother, the two embark on a journey to find each other, but discover it takes more than a glass slipper."

Jisa, who is homes-schooled, has built up her acting confidence while performing for her church and in other community productions. Although she didn't get any of the larger roles, even though she got a call back for all the main parts, she will have several solos and be involved in a number of vocal performances. She plays two parts--a waltzing maiden and the decorator for the ball, in which she performs with three other actors.

"It is kind of nerve-racking at first but I am learning to get past that," she said. "I like all the people I am working with, it's a great time when we are all singing and dancing together."

Performances will be at 7 p.m. on May 6 and 13; at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on May 7 and 14; and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 8 and 15. Tickets can be purchased by calling (480) 644-6500 or at www.CYTPhoenix.org.
