The Mountain Pointe Theater Company is performing its last showing of “The Nerd” tomorrow in the school’s auditorium.

As the company’s second production of the school year, the show’s premise revolves around a young architect and a semi-unexpected house guest that causes havoc.

The cast of seven actors and actresses opened the production on Thursday, and after the last showing tomorrow, they will head into preparing for winter performances.

“I can’t believe we are already halfway through the season,” said Kim Bonagofski, a theater director at Mountain Pointe. “Time really does fly, but we’re excited for the remainder of the season.”

The company’s holiday performances will kick off with small, one acts directed by both students and directors in early December. Later in the semester, the Visual and Performing Arts Academy will host a holiday showcase.

“The Nerd,” set in 1979, presents the story of Willum Cubbert, an young architect, and his unexpected house guest, Rick, who had saved Willum’s life in Vietnam. Over the years, Willum and Rick had exchanged occasional letters and greeting cards, though never meeting. While Willum is hosting a dinner party for his boss, Rick shows up and his awkward manner throws the occasion into shambles.

Idler began hosting auditions in September. Rehearsals for the show went through October.

“The students have been working so hard on the production and even gave up their fall break to dedicate time to this production,” said Suzanne Idler, the show’s guest director.

Tickets for “The Nerd” are available at the school’s box office, 4201 E. Knox Road, and cost $5 for students and $7 for adults. Tomorrow’s showtimes are 2:30 and 7 p.m.
