The University of Arizona recently awarded Seton Catholic Preparatory High School with the 2011-2012 University Cup for 16 graduates earning the highest cumulative GPA as college freshmen.

The award is given out every year to an Arizona high school with a representation of 10 or more students in the university’s freshmen class, who have earned the highest cumulative GPA average during their freshman year.

As Seton’s first year winning, the 16 alums from the Class of 2011, including some from Ahwatukee Foothills, earned a cumulative GPA of 3.34.

“We’re just excited for our students,” said David Sorkin, assistant principal at Seton. “This type of award is a testament to academic excellence.”

The award was presented to Seton during the school’s Homecoming pep rally in late October.

In addition, the college preparatory was given a $2,000 scholarship that will be given to an upcoming graduate heading to U of A for the 2013 school year.

“Our parents are very excited, it helps validate what we do here,” Sorkin added. “We’re very happy to see what the Seton education can yield.”
