The seventh annual Phoenix Fashion Week is under way, providing a platform for both local and established designers to show off their new creations.

The fashionable festivities kicked off Wednesday with the "Fashionably Pink Show."

"The whole concept of the show was to raise awareness by having designers create pink pieces to create a pink catwalk inspired by local celebs," said Brian Hill, executive director at Phoenix Fashion Week.

There was a silent auction prior to the Fashionably Pink Show and all of the proceeds will benefit Susan G. Komen for the cure Phoenix.

"We have already exceeded our donations from last year, and it all goes to the Phoenix chapter," Hill said.

The weekend event will feature a total of 24 established designers and 10 emerging designer shows, all featuring holiday 2011 and spring 2011 looks. This year, the emerging designers are from all over the country and are competing for money and other prizes to help launch their brands.

"The designer who receives the most points from our panel of judges, based on various challenges leading up to fashion week, will be named the winner of the Emerging Designer Contest here at fashion week," Hill said. "They will receive numerous prizes, including line placement in a local boutique, revamped website and more."

Another addition to this year's Phoenix Fashion Week is the Style Villa, which is open to the public.

"Local brands and designers will all be in one venue for people to shop," Hill said. "The Villa will be open from 5 to 11 p.m. and anyone can get in, you do not need a ticket to shop, this is the first year we are doing this."

Phoenix Fashion Week continues through Saturday, Oct. 8, at Talking Stick Resort, 9800 E. Indian Bend Road, in Scottsdale. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.phoenixfashionweek.com.
