Desert Vista's Anna Battle was recently named the 2012 Arizona High School Principal of the Year by the National Association of Secondary School Principals. She is now in the running to become a finalist for the national award, called the 2012 MetLife/NASSP National Principals of the Year.

"To be recognized by NASSP as Arizona's state secondary principal of the year, is an amazing honor," Battle said in an email. "Educators work extremely hard to provide educational experiences that are results oriented and meet every child's needs. Principals around the state are extremely talented and are doing great things for children in their schools."

The 2010-11 school year was marked as a great success both inside and outside the classroom. DV was awarded the A+ School of Excellence award by the Arizona Educational Foundation (AEF).

"God has blessed me to serve such an amazing community," Battle said. "It was a wonderful experience."

She received the award at the Arizona Schools Administrator's conference on June 13.

Staff wins grant to receive sustainability training

Forty-seven members of the Tempe Union High School District staff will receive an all-expense paid training session from Intel this week stemming from a $25,000 grant that was awarded to the district.

From June 13-16 the 47 staff members will visit the Intel offices and Rio Salado College to learn from the top people in the field of environmental sustainability.

They will hear speakers from Chevron, Xerox and more during the four-day workshop.

TUHSD has raised the bar in pushing for more education when it comes to environmental conservation and technology. At the conference, teachers will increase their knowledge in the fields of renewable energy, water resources, green building and design, preparing students for the green workforce and the emerging green economy.
