In reality it’s a compliment but it probably wasn’t easy to hear.

An opposing football coach recently told Dylan Fischer he hated him, but it came with a qualifier.

The coach was the offensive line coach, meaning Desert Vista’s stalwart defensive tackle probably kept that coach up at night. Trying to move the 6-foot-2 and 295-pound Fischer, who knows just how to use his low center of gravity, ain’t easy.

Trying to scheme against Fisher, who is attending Navy on a scholarship, was tough, but then the coach got to know Fischer on the track circuit and said it was easy to befriend him because of his personality.

It epitomizes Fischer’s approach to most things — he attacks his foe or goal full bore, but usually has a great time doing it.

In addition to being a Division I first-team selection by the Arizona Football Coaches Association, Fischer won the DI shot put and discus state title to be named the Ahwatukee Foothills News Senior Male Athlete of the Year.
