With 19 percent of all Arizona residents living below the poverty line, nearly 1 in 4 Arizona children live in poverty, with nearly 500,000 food insecure — meaning they don’t know where their next meal is coming from.
In an effort to combat poverty and food insecurity in Arizona, the Tempe Community Action Agency (TCAA) is hosting its ninth-annual “First Crush Charity Gala” at the Tempe Center for the Arts on Oct. 25 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The event, presented by Jenny Norton & Bob Ramsey, includes food items from Santa Barbara Catering Company, spirits from Four Peaks Brewing and Action Wine, and entertainment by Alice Tatum and the Alice Tatum Band. The Center’s Gallery, which will be showing a juried exhibition of the world’s leading realism artists, will be open to event attendees.
A large silent auction will also be presented, as well as a “food pantry” can sale, with prizes ranging from gift cards to designer watches.
All proceeds will benefit TCAA’s efforts to feed the hungry and provide other resources for the community’s most vulnerable residents.
Tickets are $75 until Sept. 20 ($100 after).
