An assistant band instructor at a Tempe high school accused of having a sexual relationship with a female student has pleaded not guilty.
Maricopa County prosecutors say 23-year-old Andrew Islas entered his plea Thursday. His next court date is an initial pretrial conference on April 24.
Tempe police arrested Islas on Feb. 21 on suspicion of six counts of sexual conduct with a minor.
Police say Islas allegedly had an ongoing sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl at Tempe High from August through November of last year.
They say the sexual contact allegedly occurred multiple times at various locations including Islas’ home in Chandler. Police still are investigating whether any of the alleged incidents occurred on campus.
