According to early voting, it appears that voters have approved a $75 million bond for Tempe Union High School District, but have shot down a budget override request.
The $75 million bond will provide the district with additional funds on one-time expenditures such as building schools, repairing schools and adding infrastructure or technology.
The 15 percent maintenance and operations budget override would have increased the current override – which sits at 10 percent and provides about $9.8 million to the district each year. With the failure to renew the override, the district will lose a third of its override funding beginning with the 2013 school year.
The school board election, which was also Tuesday, appeared too close to call at press time. One incumbent - Michelle Helm - was leading with 25 percent of the vote over four contenders. Three four-year seats were being decided.
