The Tempe Elementary School District is considering merging schools next year to help balance the budget. Letters about this were sent home with students from Bustoz, Fuller, Meyer and Hudson elementary schools last month.

The district will hold several public forums to look at $3 million to $5 million in possible budget reductions for next school year. Possible options being considered by the Resource Allocation Committee include: Merging one to three schools (including a middle school); reducing positions; increasing class sizes; and eliminating district office positions.

The first of four public forums will be held 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Jan. 26 at Fees College Preparatory Middle School, 1600 E. Watson Dr. For more information, see www.tempeschools.org.
