Gethsemane Lutheran Church & School will host a bone marrow drive 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the church café, located at 1035 E. Guadalupe Road, Tempe.

The church is hosting the drive in support of Samuel Andrew, 2, a member of church community who recently received a bone marrow transplant in September. The church community wishes to help repay the gift that was given to Samuel.

Joining the registry is painless and simple. It requires just a quick cotton swab in the mouth. Many people with life-threatening diseases, such as leukemia or lymphoma, do not have family members who are a good match for transplant. Their best chance for a transplant comes from an donor. All races and ethnicities are needed. By joining the Be The Match registry, the national bone marrow registry, your DNA will be entered into a national database accessible to doctors searching for genetic matches.
