Tempe is celebrating America Recycles Day on Saturday by collecting residents’ hazardous waste, and even offering free compost that’s produced from Tempe waste. The activities are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Tempe’s Household Products Collection Center, 1320 E. University Drive.

Residents can bring household products including paint, insecticides, automotive products, bleach and other hazardous waste. The city will collect electronic waste such as computers, printers, televisions and cell phones. And residents can bring athletic shoes — but not cleats, spikes or hiking boots — to be recycled for sports and playground surfaces. Also, plastic bags can be dropped off. Residents can pick up a bag of compost and get a free reusable shopping bag. For more information, go to www.tempe.gov/recycling
