A portion of Broadway Road in Tempe is closed in both direction and city police and fire crews deal with a fire at an apartment complex Tuesday afternoon.
Tempe police are assisting with the redirection of traffic due to the fire at Country Club Apartments, 1917 E. Broadway Road. Option north-south routes include McClintock Road or the Price Freeway (Loop 101). Option east-west routes include Apache Boulevard or Southern Avenue.
According to the City of Tempe, a female became trapped during the first alarm fire at about 3:15 p.m. after she reentered the apartment to save her dog at approximately. Firefighters rescued her from the second floor balcony, and the dog was revived and taken to a local veterinarian, which confirmed to City officials that it would survive. The female occupant had burns on her hands but refused treatment.
The initial cause of the fire was related to a cooking fire, according to the City of Tempe.
