Living in the Valley means that Christmases usually aren't white. However, starting Nov. 23, Tempe Marketplace will become a winter wonderland.
The shopping center will have its official tree lighting at 6:30 p.m. The event will also feature a professional holiday skating performance on a synthetic hybrid-ice skating rink. At 7 p.m., the snow will begin to fall.
But the snow doesn't fall for just one night; it will fall every evening (except Thanksgiving) 7-8 p.m. until Dec. 24. The artificial snow is 90 percent water, non-toxic, non-staining, ecofriendly, non-allergenic and dissolves on contact.
For the third year, there will be free skating on the hybrid-ice skating rink Thanksgiving weekend, Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Skates are available and there is no charge for this fun activity for the entire family.
The rink is self-sustaining in that it needs no energy (electricity) and adapts to any climate.
