Phoenix Children’s Hospital on Wednesday will distribute child-safety car seats to 25 pre-selected East Valley families.

The event comes as part of National Child Passenger Safety Week when parents are urged to place children in the backseat of their cars, inside a safety seat.

According to the Arizona Department of Health Services, car crashes are the leading cause of death for children ages 5 to 8 — many of whom weren’t placed safely in cars. The event will be 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Escalante Community Center, 2150 E. Orange St.
