The Kyrene School District will need to cut the equivalent of 70 full-time positions next year in light of budget cuts from the state.
The administration outlined the scenario earlier this week. Thirty positions will likely be eliminated through retirements or the end of one-year contracts. Kyrene may need to lay off 40 additional staff members.
Kyrene needs to reduce its budget about $5.3 million for the 2011-12 school year. The governing board will meet in special session Tuesday to discuss the changes.
The district is considering raising class size by two students for grades kindergarten through third grade and by one student for fourth through eighth grade.
