When life gets busy, returning library books can become a low priority, and those fines really add up. If you are a Tempe resident whose tab is preventing you from checking out more books, you can wipe your slate clean by donating non-perishable food until Dec.31.

For every food item donated, Tempe Public Library will waive one dollar from your library debt. Fees cannot be removed from accounts already in collection. There will also be a prize drawing available for residents who haven’t accumulated any fines, but still want to clean out their pantries.

Donated food will go to Tempe Community Action Agency, which manages a community garden and food pantry. Bring food items, along with a library card or photo ID, to the library’s front desk. Donated food must not be expired, unlabeled or homemade. The library is located at 3500 S. Rural Road, Tempe.
