"A pair or Tempe restaurants are fighting for the appetite of nearby college students,"
should be 'is fighting,' since "A pair" is singular. And why is it "A pair OR"??
That should be a pair OF.

"where he’s originally from" is redundant.

"... poultry is the main attraction, albeit in two distinctive styles."
My guess is that Padilla means distinct instead of "distinctive," because her point is, "... the cooking style itself sets the restaurants apart."

"“Dealing with chicken compared to ground beef is not even close to what the food costs,” said Micatrotto. “We’re paying a premium for it being fresh, never frozen"
requires a period to end the sentence.

This is an impossibly awkward sentence and needs to be recast: "Before each location opened, both outlets researched the availability of chicken-centric options; each also claim to have the best product in town – leaves the ASU and Tempe communities with two solid dining options."
