Florence High School officials are looking into how a package containing a highly addictive prescription pain drug made its way onto a school bus Wednesday.

The drug Fentanyl was found tucked in between the last seat and the back of the bus, said Larry Cline, spokesman for the Florence Unified School District.

No one was in possession of the drug, and the school is working with the bus driver to determine who was sitting in that area of the bus, Cline said.

The drug was found in its medical packaging.

Fentanyl is prescribed for chronic pain when other drugs such as morphine aren’t effective, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The effects of the drug are similar to heroin and it has been given the street name “White China.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the school at (520) 866-3503.
