Pinal County officials say mosquito fogging is scheduled for the city of Maricopa next week.

The county's Environmental Health Services says a mosquito trapped during routine surveillance for West Nile virus tested positive, resulting in the need to fog the area to prevent transmission of the disease to humans or animals.

Weather permitting, fogging will take place in Maricopa on Sept. 2-4 between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. each day.

West Nile virus is transmitted to humans and animals through the bite of an infected mosquito.
