Four high school students were seriously injured in a Sunday morning crash in Gilbert that police say likely involved alcohol.
As of Monday evening, two of the students are currently in critical condition with potentially life threatening injuries, police said. The other two occupants of the white truck were seriously injured, but their injuries were not life threatening.
The Queen Creek High School students crashed around 1:45 a.m. near Ocotillo and Greenfield roads. The teenagers were transported to local trauma centers.
The students’ vehicle reportedly launched over a canal, struck the canal’s side wall, flipped over and then caught fire, police said. A witness pulled the students from the flaming vehicle.
Police said alcohol was likely a factor in the collision.
