Laurie Roland was sworn in Oct. 21 by Don Covey, Maricopa County Superintendent of Schools, to fill an open Queen Creek Unified School District governing board position. Monica Cavanaugh resigned this summer after she was hired to work in the district. Board members cannot be employees.

Roland attended Queen Creek district schools, as did her children. Roland is a former district employee in the transportation department. Her term runs through Dec. 31, 2012. She could seek election November 2012 to remain on the board.
