Banner Health has selected Rhonda Anderson, a registered nurse with decades of leadership experience, to serve as chief executive of Cardon Children's Medical Center on the Banner Desert Medical Center campus in Mesa.

As Banner Health's pediatric service line administrator, Anderson was involved in the planning, development and construction of the new children's hospital. Patients, physicians, nurses and staff moved into the $356 million facility on Nov. 2. The seven-story tower includes 248 beds and a new, enlarged pediatric emergency room and units for pediatric rehabilitation, radiology, cancer care, intensive care and neonatal intensive care.

The new facility also includes six operating rooms, and 25 private, child-friendly preoperative and postoperative rooms.

Anderson assumes the position immediately. She previously served as pediatric administrator of Cardon Children's, in addition to roles as chief nursing officer, senior administrator and chief operating officer at Banner Desert, and as senior administrator at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center.
