A Mesa man who police say has a history of stealing copper wire was arrested Tuesday morning after a police dog chased him down and bit him a few times before he was taken into custody.

Christopher Felter was arrested in the 1600 block of South Clearview about 3:30 a.m. Monday after officers conducted surveillance along U.S. 60 in east Mesa where an informant said copper wire was being stolen from freeway light poles.

After surveillance was set up, officers observed a man stealing copper wire from freeway poles and set up a perimeter so he couldn't escape. He tried to flee on foot, but Felter was detained by the dog and apprehended.
