Woman dead in Mesa domestic dispute
A 24-year-old woman is dead and a 35-year-old man was arrested for 2nd degree homicide in Mesa following what police are calling domestic dispute.
Mesa Police arrested Travis Lafel Zah after they responded to an area around Second Avenue and Mesa Drive about 10 a.m. Thursday. Witnesses called police after seeing a man and woman argue loudly in a field in the area.
“Then they were in a pretty rough physical altercation,” Mesa Det. Diana Williams told the media.
The suspect and the victim were in a romantic relationship, Williams said.
The woman stumbled from the field to the front of a residence in the area and collapsed.
“There was a blood trail and she fell in front of the residence here,” Williams said.
Medical personnel came to the scene, but she was pronounced dead. Police collected a knife at the location, however, it cannot be directly linked to the victim’s death at this time, Williams said.
The man was taken to a hospital and released, Williams said. After his release, he was interviewed by invesigators.
Police believe they have identified the victim, but are not releasing identification of the woman until her next of kin have been notified.
