A motorist and her Christmas presents were rescued from a canal near Main Street and Gilbert Road in Mesa Friday evening.
Firefighters lowered a ladder to the cold, wet woman in the canal, where the water level rose to her truck’s door. She was transported to Mesa General Hospital just after 7 p.m. as a precaution, while firefighters stayed to salvage the Christmas gifts in the vehicle.
Mesa Fire Department officials were unsure what caused the woman to run off the road into the canal. The firefighters involved were not immediately available for comment.
