Mesa native one of 15 to earn coveted fellowship

Mesa native Matthew Brown is one of 15 people to receive a prized fellowship that will guide him through his PhD studies.

Brown received the Hertz Fellowship targeted at students pursuing a doctorate in applied physical, biological and engineering sciences. The fellowship is valued at $250,000.

Brown is a senior at Arizona State University double majoring in physics and mathematics. His academic interests are in string theory, quantum gravity, topology and geometry.
