Mesa police are investigating an officer-involved shooting involving a man described as suicidal.
The police department says it responded to a call in the 700 block of West Farmdale near East Southern Avenue and South Higley Road just before midnight Wednesday after a man barricaded himself. Police negotiators spent time trying to talk the armed man into surrendering.
Police spokesman Steve Berry tells KTKV-TV police tried to use non-lethal means before the man charged officers and was fatally shot.
Berry says the man was pronounced dead at the hospital.
No officers were injured. The man's name has not been released.
