I have only been a valley resident for the last 25 years. However, in that time, I have seen many valley landmarks disappear. In the case of the "Diving Lady" I would gladly make a donation to have her restored. It has been a rarity to see the sign not in perfect working order. It's not like the owners have not taken care of "her". Too many landmarks have been lost already.

My grandfather Bruce Hancock made the neon for this sign! It is so sad to see it destroyed. Too bad he does not work any more, it would be great to have him make the neon to repair it!

Has anyone thought of or suggested that a fund be started to collect money so the diving lady sign can be restored. It truly is an historic Mesa landmark and should be replaced.

Agree, she was rare and unique - Motel owners/City of Mesa: Please start a restoration fund. Not only will local people donate to the cause, but neon afficianados worldwide would contriubute as well.

She was a unique remnant of the old days when Main street was the main street. Bring her back!

It's been a while but I think it was closer to '55 than '60. Uncle Paul did great work.

@treed1134 BJ did a lot of specialty neon work for me over the years and I lost contact with him after moving to Silver City NM in 2005. How is he doing? I googled his name this morning and this site was all I got. He had a prototype of a vertical axis wind turbine in his shop years ago and I wonder if he patented it or did anything with it in the years since. I am interested in that technology for an off-grid housing unit that I am designing. If you see this, please contact me at beamsdesign@mac.com
