Though Helen's Hope Chest provides basic needs for foster children, such as clothing, school supplies, books and toys, sometimes it's a personal touch that makes a big impact.

This month, the cosmetology program at Mesa's East Valley Institute of Technology donated 1,000 haircut gift certificates to Helen's Hope Chest, a United Way affiliated organization.

Coupon recipients can make an appointment to get a haircut from students enrolled in classes at EVIT at any time in the future.

The donation benefits both Helen's Hope Chest and the cosmetology program at the EVIT, as the school's students gain skills and hours toward their state certification while those in need can get a new hairstyle at no cost to them.
