Maricopa County Sheriff's investigators were looking for an inmate from Mesa who was missing from the Tent City jail on Tuesday.
Details were scarce, and investigators did not know whether Damian Martin, 29, escaped from the jail or never returned from a daytime work release, said sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Jim Kempher.
According to online court records, Martin was serving time for a burglary conviction. He applied for work release in July, but was denied. He was set to be released from jail in December.
