Dianne Szonn believes technology should be embraced and used as a daily learning tool in classrooms. Szoon, a fifth-grade teacher at Red Mountain Elementary School in Mesa, designed the school’s website and holds technology education sessions with co-workers, students and even parents. For Szonn, computer technology gives students and teachers an upper hand in learning and teaching.

For her dedication to her students, Szonn has been named this school year’s first winner of the Fulton Homes “Teacher of the Week.” This is the 14th consecutive year Fulton Homes has sponsored the educational program that honors Valley school teachers for their excellence. Szoon has been a teacher for nine years.

Throughout the school year the program showcases teachers who inspire their students. Both students and parents can nominate their favorite educator each week for that teacher’s chance to win $300 from Fulton Homes and other prizes. The chosen educator will be announced each Friday from 6:20 to 7:20 a.m. on KNIX’s Ben and Matt in the Morning Show, heard at 102.5 FM. Students and parents can nominate their favorite teacher each week by visiting www.knixcountry.com, and submitting a brief form describing why their teacher deserves the title.

In May a ‘Teacher of the Year’ will be chosen from the list of weekly winners, and they will be presented with a $1,000 check at a ceremony honoring all the weekly winners. Based on the entries submitted, a panel of judges will select a winner and the teacher will be announced at the May banquet.

“Fulton Homes is proud to honor Dianne Szonn for all she does for her students,” said Fulton Homes CEO Doug Fulton. “She not only is dedicated to her fifth-grade students, but also to Red Mountain Elementary.”

In May 2014, a ‘Teacher of the Year’ will be chosen from the list of weekly winners, and will be presented with a $1,000 check at a ceremony honoring all the weekly winners.
