The Mesa Fire Department is set to receive a $4,175 grant from one of its supporting foundations so it can purchase life-saving equipment.

The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation will present the grant 10:30 a.m. Saturday so the department can purchase 100 dual-sensor smoke detectors and 100 fire extinguishers. The presentation will be at the Firehouse Subs, 3420 E. Baseline Road, Mesa.

The equipment will be used as part of the Mesa Fire Department’s Life Safety Education Program, developed to help reduce the number of fires and hazards in the community through education, inspection and replacement of fire safety devices.

Each restaurant recycles leftover 5-gallon pickle buckets and allows customers to purchase them for $2, with proceeds going to the foundation.
