Arizona State University will have a free debate on Proposition 121, the open elections/open government initiative, 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9 at the Polytechnic campus in Mesa.
Proposition 121 would amend the state constitution to give Arizona what id commonly known as a top-two primary system. In a primary election, all candidates would be on the ballot, regardless of political affiliation. The two candidates who receive the most votes would advance to the general election.
Former Phoenix Mayor Paul Johnson, head of The Arizona Open Government Coalition, the group behind the measure, will debate Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery, who heads the opposition group, Save Our Vote. Gilbert Town Manager Patrick Banger will moderate the 90 minute debate.
The debate will be in the Cooley Ballroom in the Student Union. ASU Polytechnic is located at 7001 E. Williams Field Rd. Parking is available in Lot 10.

A Vote YES for 121 is a vote for every citizen/voter:
1. To have equal access to be PLACED on the ballots.
2. To have equal access to VOTE any ballot.
3. And political parties will still be able to exist to promote
the people/candidates the favor. And to promote the
ideas they favor.
