Longtime businessman Vic Linoff announced Wednesday he will run for the Mesa City Council to represent District 4, which encompasses downtown and the area south of downtown.

Linoff has been active on numerous boards and commissions, as well as with historic preservation efforts in Mesa and Tempe. He also owned Those Were the Days!, a shop he operated for decades in downtown Tempe.

He seeks to replace Kyle Jones, who cannot run again because Mesa restricts council members to two four-year terms. The primary election will take place in September, with a runoff in November.
