East Valley fuel prices fell nearly 4 cents Thursday to $3.445 per gallon, a penny more than a year ago.

Gas prices statewide fell 3 cents in the last week to $3.468. The nationwide average was $3.477.

“Despite recent declines, Arizona drivers will pay the second highest fuel price on record for the holiday this Independence Day,” said Linda Gorman, director of communications and public affairs for AAA Arizona. “However, this isn’t stopping 651,000 Arizonans projected to embark on a Fourth of July road trip.”

Tucson and Flagstaff hold the low and high state fuel averages at $3.243 and $3.671 per gallon, respectively. South Carolina and California hold the lowest and highest average prices for the lower 48 states at $3.164 and $3.988 per gallon, respectively.
