Mesa Parks, Recreation and Commercial Facilities Department recently received a grant from Coca-Cola for the city’s Fun ‘n Fitness Mobile Recreation Unit.
Coca-Cola of Arizona provided the city with a $23,000 grant to operate the recreation unit, which visits local schools, parks and community events to provide free activities to kids two or three times a week from October through May. The department started operating the recreation unit in 2009 to serve children from kindergarten through grade six.
“The goal is to bring a mobile recreation center to children and provide them with activities and games that promote fitness, nutrition and of course, fun,” Mesa Parks, Recreation and Commercial Facilities Director, Marc Heirshberg said in a press release. “This grant will help us purchase equipment and materials we need to bring the program to underserved areas in Mesa.”
The recreation unit will make an appearance at the Riverview Park Grand Opening on Jan. 25.
