Take part in a guided one-mile hike from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at Usery Mountain Regional Park, 3939 N. Usery Pass Road, in search of one of the desert’s most interesting creatures, the scorpion.

Learn more about how they survive and thrive in the harsh conditions in which they dwell. The trek will take place at night and use black lights to detect the fluorescent glow of the scorpions.

Bring water and a flashlight and wear sturdy hiking shoes. Black lights will be available for rent at the visitors center. The hike is free, but there is a $6 entrance fee to the park per vehicle. For more information, call (480) 655-5554, ext. 202, or visit www.maricopa.gov/parks/santan.

4th Friday Artwalk

Members of the East Valley Art Guild will show and sell their works in this juried exhibition designed to entertain the whole family. Morning fitness hike

Are you an early riser looking to explore nature and meet some new people? Come take part in a three-mile group hike along the mostly level Moon Rock, Blevins and NoSo Trails at 6:30 a.m. Thursday in Usery Mountain Regional Park, 3939 N. Usery Pass Road.

Adult flag football league

Registration is open for teams that would like to participate in the fall session of adult flag football.

Teams are guaranteed to play at least seven games over the season, which starts Sept. 1. Games will begin between 6:20 p.m. and 9:40 p.m. at Riverview Park, 2100 W. Eighth St.

All teams must submit a completed roster of between eight and 20 players. League fees are $475 per team.

Soldered jewelry class

Learn to create beautiful and unique soldered jewelry in this one-day creative workshop.

'My Favorite Monster’ exhibit

The Arizona Museum for Youth takes a lighthearted look at monsters created by a variety of artists.

Kids can explore a monster’s castle, star in a monster movie and even make a monster of their own. The museum is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and is located at 35 N. Robson.
